Impact

Who had an impact on my life? Someone I met randomly? The first thought that came to my mind is Anja, a nice Polish lady I met on the street of Warsaw 10 years ago. I was there for only 1 day to get a travelling visa for Latvia, for a conference. The taxi driver left me at a wrong address and I did not know how to reach my hotel or the embassy. And then she came, I noticed that was my age, I approached her and I asked in English if she could help. And in no time, this amazing woman, pointed out the hotel, it was in an inner court, I have missed it and then she said, leave your bag I will go with you the embassy. I knew it was very close by, so in 10 minutes we have found it. When I wanted to say goodbye and thank her once more, she asked if I would have dinner with her in the evening, she would show me the old town and introduce me to some nice Polish meals. It was a lovely evening, we chatted, she was an editor at that time, and had lots of fun. When I tried to find out how could I repay her for her kindness, she just said: do the same for people in need. And I did follow her advice from then, I always try to help people who are lost in a new town. She was my angel and I do regret that she moved and I don't have her address, but maybe one day we will meet again. By chance!

Thank you Anja!

what a wonderful story! just think if we would all be kind to even just one other person how the world would be changed for the better...thanks for this uplifting post today!

It's good to be reminded about how a small act of kindness can influence somebody else. If only the world allowed personal contact to be so rewarding. The problem is that there are tricksters everywhere. One needs to be so careful in a city. Perhaps we could all do this close to our homes.

That is such a lovely story Claudia.

There are a lot of nasty people around
but there are many many good decent honest and kind people too.

Happy weekend.

Motto

"A story is not like a road to follow … it's more like a house. You go inside and stay there for a while, wandering back and forth and settling where you like and discovering how the room and corridors relate to each other, how the world outside is altered by being viewed from these windows. And you, the visitor, the reader, are altered as well by being in this enclosed space, whether it is ample and easy or full of crooked turns, or sparsely or opulently furnished. You can go back again and again, and the house, the story, always contains more than you saw the last time. It also has a sturdy sense of itself of being built out of its own necessity, not just to shelter or beguile you."
