Foyle's War

Another whodunnit? Not really! As described on the official website, it is actually portrait of a society 'redolent with rich human drama subtly revealed through the lives of these main characters who make up the heart of the series. Steadfast and loyal to each other, they strive to uphold the values for which they and their countrymen - their loved ones - are fighting and dying.' I discovered it in Romania due to my mother who became a great fan, and after seing a couple of episodes I decided to start at the beginning and try to understand the plot (since there is a very subtle continuous plot to be found in each episode) and also the main characters development. It describes the British society during hard times (1940s) but somehow it manages to keep a realistic tone, a very fair approach to the European situation including a straight view on the World War II. Last evening I watched Episode 1 and I have to recognise that I was spellbound, I could not move, I just wanted to keep on watching. It is worth and if you get a chance to watch, please do, you won't regret it!

Motto

"A story is not like a road to follow … it's more like a house. You go inside and stay there for a while, wandering back and forth and settling where you like and discovering how the room and corridors relate to each other, how the world outside is altered by being viewed from these windows. And you, the visitor, the reader, are altered as well by being in this enclosed space, whether it is ample and easy or full of crooked turns, or sparsely or opulently furnished. You can go back again and again, and the house, the story, always contains more than you saw the last time. It also has a sturdy sense of itself of being built out of its own necessity, not just to shelter or beguile you."
