A good book on your shelf is a friend that turns its back on you and remains a friend. ~Author Unknown

A book is the only place in which you can examine a fragile thought without breaking it, or explore an explosive idea without fear it will go off in your face. It is one of the few havens remaining where a man's mind can get both provocation and privacy. ~Edward P. Morgan

The worth of a book is to be measured by what you can carry away from it. ~James Bryce

Anyone who says they have only one life to live must not know how to read a book. ~Author Unknown

A good book has no ending. ~R.D. Cumming

Books are the quietest and most constant of friends; they are the most accessible and wisest of counselors, and the most patient of teachers. ~Charles W. Eliot

A book is like a garden carried in the pocket. ~Chinese Proverb

I love your quotes today...but I think my favorite is the one where it says anyone who says they have only one life to live must not know how to read a book. That pretty much puts my feelings in a very precise way!
Merci~

@Sush - there are so many special quotes, I love finding them on Mondays!

So many wonderful quotes, and all of them resonate :-)

You know a book is good when you're sad to see it end! Doesn't happen too often for me but when it does, I know I've enjoyed it thoroughly. Great post and quotes.

Great quotes. Love the last one: a book is like a garden carried in the pocket.

Hi Claudia! You've obviously still got that Book Fair on your mind with those lovely quotes today. I agree with Darlene, and my favourite one is A Book is Like a Garden Carried in the Pocket! Have a good week my friend.

@Sarah - I am happy to hear that!
@Barb - thank you for your words of appreciation
@Darlene - I always leave my favourite at the end!
@Diane - ditto!

Motto

"A story is not like a road to follow … it's more like a house. You go inside and stay there for a while, wandering back and forth and settling where you like and discovering how the room and corridors relate to each other, how the world outside is altered by being viewed from these windows. And you, the visitor, the reader, are altered as well by being in this enclosed space, whether it is ample and easy or full of crooked turns, or sparsely or opulently furnished. You can go back again and again, and the house, the story, always contains more than you saw the last time. It also has a sturdy sense of itself of being built out of its own necessity, not just to shelter or beguile you."
