What was your biggest dream in life (you wanted to do as a kid but no longer can)?

To become a marine biologist! Now this took you all by surprise didn't it?

That did surprise me. You must love the ocean! As a kid, I wanted to be a mother. That was it! Of course I grew up in the 1950s. Maybe I would have been different if I were born in a different time.

@Belle - yes, I love water :) and your dream came through, how lovely!

I always wanted to be a police...but never got to it really...

I wanted to be a brain surgeon.

Like Belle, I just wanted to get married and have children, so I guess it was the era that we were brought up in. If you weren't engaged at 17, you felt that you were on the shelf!! Unbelievable when you look back on it, but it seemed to work at the time! Yes, a Marine Biologist certainly was a surprise, and I'm wondering why you didn't go down that road!

@EM Illustrator - nice dream!
@Emily - wow!
@Diane - because I realised that my vocation lies elsewhere
@Karen - would love to hear you sing once!

Motto

"A story is not like a road to follow … it's more like a house. You go inside and stay there for a while, wandering back and forth and settling where you like and discovering how the room and corridors relate to each other, how the world outside is altered by being viewed from these windows. And you, the visitor, the reader, are altered as well by being in this enclosed space, whether it is ample and easy or full of crooked turns, or sparsely or opulently furnished. You can go back again and again, and the house, the story, always contains more than you saw the last time. It also has a sturdy sense of itself of being built out of its own necessity, not just to shelter or beguile you."
