Let no one weep for me, or celebrate my funeral with mourning; for I still live, as I pass to and fro through the mouths of men.
Quintus Ennius

Funeral pomp is more for the vanity of the living than for the honor of the dead.
Francois de La Rochefoucauld

Why is it that we rejoice at a birth and grieve at a funeral? It is because we are not the person involved.
Mark Twain

To the solemn graves, near a lonely cemetery, my heart like a muffled drum is beating funeral marches.
Charles Baudelaire

Dearest Claudia,
Oh, quotes for funeral. I feel like I hadn't really known the grief over people's death until my mother died 13 years ago(^_^;)

Sending you lots of love and hugs from Japan, xoxo Miyako*

I like the twain quote

I actually went to a Funeral last week, and they read out a little poem which I really love, and which was read at my dear mum's funeral. It goes "Death is Nothing at All....." If you don't know it, I'm sure it will show up on Google. Can't believe how cold it is here again today, after all that warm sunny weather of last week and the weekend. It must be a good ten degrees colder :(

I really like Ennius' quote. Hope all is well - especially as you are posting funeral quotes?

i am dying to think of something to write here.

Words to live by? Definitely food for thought, xoxo

I suppose we do celebrate a persons life but are so sad for our loss

"A story is not like a road to follow … it's more like a house. You go inside and stay there for a while, wandering back and forth and settling where you like and discovering how the room and corridors relate to each other, how the world outside is altered by being viewed from these windows. And you, the visitor, the reader, are altered as well by being in this enclosed space, whether it is ample and easy or full of crooked turns, or sparsely or opulently furnished. You can go back again and again, and the house, the story, always contains more than you saw the last time. It also has a sturdy sense of itself of being built out of its own necessity, not just to shelter or beguile you."
