F - Helen Fielding

The name should ring a bell! Bridget Jones? Indeed, Helen Fielding is the author of this succesful series and also the reason why Renee Zellweger enchanted us in the film with the same name.
Helen fielding created not only one of the bestselling books of the 1990’s, she also created a whole new genre of “chick lit”. Funnily enough the Bridget Jones’s Diary began as a column she wrote anonymous for The Independent in 1995. The column was only a way to finance another novel about cultural differences in the Caribbean, but when the people started praising the column she put her own name to the Diaries.
My favourite quote from the Diaries:

“I do think New Year's resolutions can't technically be expected to begin on New Year's Day, don't you? Since, because it's an extension of New Year's Eve, smokers are already on a smoking roll and cannot be expected to stop abruptly on the stroke of midnight with so much nicotine in the system. Also dieting on New Year's Day isn't a good idea as you can't eat rationally but really need to be free to consume whatever is necessary, moment by moment, in order to ease your hangover. I think it would be much more sensible if resolutions began generally on January the second”More info here

I love Bridget Jones:) There is no way to start a diet on January 1 with all those yummy holiday leftovers hanging around...

I always start my exercise resolution --err uh, mean to start exercising--in February because one can't get on a machine in a crowded January gym. The author is beautiful. Oops. Can't say that, it's sexism, and I'll be in trouble like Mr. Obama.

@Talya - indeed but somehow we always have our resolution list ready on the 1st of January
@Joyce - poor guy, somehow the whole situation is blown up unnecessary!

She even had a Bridget Jones, Renee Zellweger look to her. I didn't read the books, but the movies were great fun.

Laughing to myself just now, over some of the Bridget Jones movie scenes.

Happy A-Z! Visiting from the GBE 2: Blog On FB group.

I've never read Bridget Jones's Diary. And I keep reading about it very lately strangely enough. Must be trying to tell me something. :)

Sometimes the New Year's Resolution doesn't kick in until February! :D Nice post, Claudia.

Motto

"A story is not like a road to follow … it's more like a house. You go inside and stay there for a while, wandering back and forth and settling where you like and discovering how the room and corridors relate to each other, how the world outside is altered by being viewed from these windows. And you, the visitor, the reader, are altered as well by being in this enclosed space, whether it is ample and easy or full of crooked turns, or sparsely or opulently furnished. You can go back again and again, and the house, the story, always contains more than you saw the last time. It also has a sturdy sense of itself of being built out of its own necessity, not just to shelter or beguile you."
