A Sunday of Splendor: Today at the Concertgebouw

Posted by Claudia Moser on 10:36 AM

If you’re lucky enough to be in Amsterdam today, Sunday, February 22, 2026, the Museumplein is alive with more than just the usual bustle of cyclists and tourists. Inside the world-famous Concertgebouw, the air is thick with the kind of musical magic that only one of the world’s best acoustic halls can provide.

Whether you're a regular or a first-timer, today’s lineup offers a beautiful cross-section of what makes this venue a cultural powerhouse.

🎹 Morning Mastery: Beethoven & Rachmaninoff

The day kicked off in the Main Hall with the beloved Sunday Morning Concert. For those who caught the 11:00 AM session, it was a heavy-hitter program:

 * Rachmaninoff: Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini—a whirlwind of virtuosity.

 * Beethoven: Symphony No. 7—often called the "apotheosis of the dance" for its driving, rhythmic energy.

There is truly no better way to wake up your soul than hearing that iconic Second Movement of Beethoven 7 echoing through those legendary rafters.

Motto

"A story is not like a road to follow … it's more like a house. You go inside and stay there for a while, wandering back and forth and settling where you like and discovering how the room and corridors relate to each other, how the world outside is altered by being viewed from these windows. And you, the visitor, the reader, are altered as well by being in this enclosed space, whether it is ample and easy or full of crooked turns, or sparsely or opulently furnished. You can go back again and again, and the house, the story, always contains more than you saw the last time. It also has a sturdy sense of itself of being built out of its own necessity, not just to shelter or beguile you."
