Pearl S. Buck

She is one of my all time favourite writer, she has something special! Today, one of our suppliers told me a lovely quote from her and somehow I thought, hm ... this has potential, let's look for some more. And what I found is truly good, in my humble opinion of course:

Love dies only when growth stops
A good marriage is one which allows for change and growth in the individuals and in the way they express their love
You can judge your age by the amount of pain you feel when you come in contact with a new idea.
The young do not know enough to be prudent, and therefore they attempt the impossible - and achieve it, generation after generation.
All things are possible until they are proved impossible - and even the impossible may only be so, as of now.
To serve is beautiful, but only if it is done with joy and a whole heart and a free mind.
The truth is always exciting. Speak it, then. Life is dull without it.

Maybe some will ask who is this lady?

Some thoughts gathered from the Internet:
Pearl Sydenstricker Buck (June 26, 1892 – March 6, 1973) also known by her Chinese name Sai Zhenzhu, was an award-winning American writer who spent most of her time until 1934 in China. Her novel The Good Earth was the best-selling fiction book in the U.S. in 1931 and 1932, and won the Pulitzer Prize in 1932. In 1938, she became the first American woman to be awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature, "for her rich and truly epic descriptions of peasant life in China and for her biographical masterpieces"
(from Wikipedia)

My favourite book, This Proud Heart, I own a copy which was bought by my grand-grand-mother and I cherish it dearly!

I have never heard of Pearl S Buck, which seems such a shame, if all those quotes were attributed to her. That's a lovely photo of the author by the way. She looks a very dignified lady, and very gentle. I think I will have to look up "This Proud Heart" on Amazon. Thanks for sharing.

I've heard of this woman but I couldn't have answered a single trivia question about her. Thanks for teaching me something today.

I haven't heard of her either, but must try and get a copy of one of her books. Thanks for your comment! Following you :)

Motto

"A story is not like a road to follow … it's more like a house. You go inside and stay there for a while, wandering back and forth and settling where you like and discovering how the room and corridors relate to each other, how the world outside is altered by being viewed from these windows. And you, the visitor, the reader, are altered as well by being in this enclosed space, whether it is ample and easy or full of crooked turns, or sparsely or opulently furnished. You can go back again and again, and the house, the story, always contains more than you saw the last time. It also has a sturdy sense of itself of being built out of its own necessity, not just to shelter or beguile you."
