Monday's special

Posted by Claudia Moser on 9:00 AM in
Most likely the bakery theme which kept me busy yesterday, inspired me today for the Monday's special. Moreover as I was a child my grandmother did all the baking, and since today is her birthday I thought this would fit!

A funny one
Because you don't live near a bakery doesn't mean you have to go without cheesecake.

A true one
When baking, follow directions. When cooking, go by your own taste.

My feelings exactly
[Breadbaking is] one of those almost hypnotic businesses, like a dance from some ancient ceremony. It leaves you filled with one of the world's sweetest smells... there is no chiropractic treatment, no Yoga exercise, no hour of meditation in a music-throbbing chapel, that will leave you emptier of bad thoughts than this homely ceremony of making bread.

I guess it's true!
A bad review is like baking a cake with all the best ingredients and having someone sit on it.
by Danielle Steel

And somehow deep!
The future... seems to me no unified dream but a mince pie, long in the baking, never quite done.

Happy birthday Mimi!

These are really good! I definitely agree with the one about baking - I've suffered disasters many a-time! Happy Birthday to your Grandmother :)

@Emma - I am still in the learning process, but it is fun to bake!
@Karen - lucky you!

Every Friday I would bake cinnamon rolls for the family. They loved that tradition.

Happy Birthday to Grandma! Mine used to bake and bake and bake. She was so good at it even when her back hurt her she still baked. Those memories and smells will always be in my mind. Great post.

Wishing your grandma a very happy birthday. Loved your quotes today!

@Belle - I love cinnamon rolls, my definite favourites in the winter!
@Barb - yes grannies are special, and I hope I will have her a long time from now on!
@Diane - thank you, the quotes were somehow special!

Motto

"A story is not like a road to follow … it's more like a house. You go inside and stay there for a while, wandering back and forth and settling where you like and discovering how the room and corridors relate to each other, how the world outside is altered by being viewed from these windows. And you, the visitor, the reader, are altered as well by being in this enclosed space, whether it is ample and easy or full of crooked turns, or sparsely or opulently furnished. You can go back again and again, and the house, the story, always contains more than you saw the last time. It also has a sturdy sense of itself of being built out of its own necessity, not just to shelter or beguile you."
