Bracing the Cold: A New Year's Splash in Almere Haven!

Posted by Claudia Moser on 8:10 AM

What an incredible way to kick off the new year! This past January 1st, I had the absolute thrill of participating in the New Year's Plunge in Almere Haven, and let me tell you, it was an experience I won't soon forget!

There's something uniquely exhilarating about willingly throwing yourself into freezing cold water at the start of a new year. The air was crisp, the atmosphere was buzzing with excitement, and a collective sense of anticipation hung over the crowd. But the best part? I wasn't alone! My amazing husband and a fantastic group of friends joined me in this invigorating tradition.

We huddled together, sharing nervous laughs and encouraging words, before making the exhilarating dash into the icy waters. The initial shock was, as expected, a jolt to the system! But it was quickly replaced by an incredible rush of adrenaline and a feeling of pure, unadulterated joy. There's a true sense of camaraderie that forms when you're all experiencing something so bold and memorable together. We splashed, we screamed (mostly from the cold!), and we laughed until our cheeks hurt. It was an amazing, refreshing, and utterly unforgettable start to 2026.

Emerging from the water, we all felt a profound sense of accomplishment and invigoration. It was a powerful reminder to embrace challenges, step out of our comfort zones, and welcome new experiences with open arms.

Feeling inspired and energized by the plunge, I've decided to carry that momentum into the rest of the year.

My next steps?

Motto

"A story is not like a road to follow … it's more like a house. You go inside and stay there for a while, wandering back and forth and settling where you like and discovering how the room and corridors relate to each other, how the world outside is altered by being viewed from these windows. And you, the visitor, the reader, are altered as well by being in this enclosed space, whether it is ample and easy or full of crooked turns, or sparsely or opulently furnished. You can go back again and again, and the house, the story, always contains more than you saw the last time. It also has a sturdy sense of itself of being built out of its own necessity, not just to shelter or beguile you."
